What is Advanced Scoring?
Advanced scoring allows you to set additional parameters that will impact the student’s Overall Score. Advanced scoring is available for Question, Image, and Video exercise types.
The parameters are:
- Minimum number of words
- You can set a minimum number of words the student must say.
- Minimum duration (seconds)
- You can set the minimum duration of recording (max 30 seconds).
- Required key word(s)
- The student’s answer must contain all of these word(s) in no particular order. Each key word not said lowers the Overall Score.
- Teachers may find this especially beneficial for assessing comprehension.
- If you use “Required key word(s)”, they cannot use “Text to match” and vice versa.
- Text to match
- The answer must contain all of these words in the exact same order.
- Teachers may find this especially beneficial for practicing sentence patterns.
- If you use “Text to Match”, they cannot use “required key word(s)” and vice versa.
The parameters are optional so you don’t have to fill out each one.
How can I use advanced scoring?
Let’s use “What is the capital city of Taiwan?” as the sample question.
If I want the students to say certain word(s), I would fill out the “Required key word(s)” parameter.
For example, if we add “Taipei” and “Taiwan” as the key words, students have to say the 2 words when they answer the question. The order in which the student says the key words doesn’t matter, so the Sensay AI will recognize both “Taipei is the capital city of Taiwan” or “Taiwan’s capital is Taipei” as correct answers.
If I want the students to answer in a very specific format, I will fill out the “Text to match” parameter.
For example, if I want the students to say “Taipei is the capital city of Taiwan” I will add this sentence on the “Text to match” field. Students have to answer with the exact sentence to get a score, otherwise, they’ll have to try again.
If I want to allow the students to answer freely, but want to make sure they at least say a certain number of words, I will use the “Minimum number of words” parameter and pair it with “Required key word(s)”. Taiwan only has one capital city after all!
If I want to allow the students to answer freely, but want to make sure they speak for a certain duration, I will use the “Minimum duration” parameter and pair it with “Required key word(s)”. Taiwan only has one capital city after all!
